One Arm Chair
In my furniture design workshop in Copenhagen, I was given a simple prompt: design a chair with two pieces, a premolded plywood seat blank and a bent stainless steel tube base. With a single cut and a simple rotation, I transformed these elements, creating a firm but dynamic piece with increased functionality. While the cut from the seat removes a perceived negligible amount of material, the offcut comprises the armrest, granting support for the user to lean, slouch, or even sleep. The created negative space highlights the linear motifs that transect the piece and juxtapose the plywood's flexible form.
